Isla Margarita Overview

Isla Margarita Beach Margarita Island (Isla Margarita) is the largest island of the Nueva Esparta State in Venezuela, situated in the Caribbean off the north eastern shore of the country. The State has two other smaller islands: Coche and Cubagua. The capital is La Asunción located in a river valley of the same name. The biggest city is Porlamar. Primary industries are tourism, fishing and construction. Population is about 420,000.

In close proximity with the mainland, approximately 19 Km. from the coast of Venezuela, enjoying a tropical climate and an average year round temperatute of approximately 27 C to 38 C. People practice all most kinds of water sports, everything from a simple walk on the beach or a nice tan to discovering the underwater flora and fauna of the Caribbean, from sailing to rowing in a kayak. It is good to know some Spanish; few people speak fluent English.

Beaches
There are at least 50 unique and magnificent margarita beaches which are scattered along a 106 miles of coastline! The Margarita Island beaches is not crowded even at peak season, but the person who prefer a more isolated beach do not have to look for a long time. Pleasantly enough there are no private margarita beaches; this has the governor of the Isla de Margarita decided. You are welcome to the hotel’s beaches even if you are not guest on that hotel. Playa el Agua is the longest, widest, busiest and most serviced beach on the island of Margarita. If younger surfer vibe are what you’re looking for then Playa Parguito or Playa El Yaque are your best bets. If you prefer a little local charm without all of the tourism, Playa Guacuco may be the place for you.

Nightlife
Most of the night life takes place in the bars , restaurants, cinemas, discotheques and Casinos in Porlamar. Naturally the tourist centers such as Playa El Agua alsooffer their evening program.
